Cheap Moving Boxes
When you're moving house, small expenses can add up quickly. Eating out once or twice while you are settling into your new house, for example, isn't that big a deal, but if you do it for a week or two while you are waiting to unpack, it can add up to a lot of money.
The same goes for packing supplies. You wouldn't think that it would be that important to get cheap moving boxes, but it certainly is. If you're going to be packing up 20 or 30 boxes, you don't want to have to spend 10 dollars each. If you plan ahead and use simple common sense, however, you can save a lot of money while moving.

The cheapest moving boxes are the ones that you get for free. You are likely to have some heavy items that need high-quality boxes, but you probably will have a lot of stuff that can be transported in basically anything. For these kinds of discount moving boxes, you should go to grocery stores, supermarkets, and places like that. Most stores throw out boxes every day, and it probably won't mind if you take some for yourself. Usually they will either get some from the back room, or send you around back to get them from the dumpster. Every time I move, I started by gathering free boxes.
If you have enough time, you should probably pack as much as you can into your free boxes before you start looking for ones on sale. Some things just require high quality cardboard boxes. Usually, I will buy cheap moving boxes at the closest affordable store. Packaging stores, U-Haul places, and even post offices can be great sources. If you order a lot of things online, this can also be a source of cheap moving boxes. A lot of mail order items have remarkably durable and resilient containers that you can reuse if you are careful to keep them in good condition. As with anything else, it is all a simple matter of planning ahead.
If you do end up buying a lot of cheap moving boxes when you move, try saving some of the higher quality ones. If you have a little bit of extra room in your garage to keep them, you never know when they might come in handy. Then, next time you are ready to move, you will have some of your work already done for you.
